The main differences between centrifugal fans and axial fans

一、The working principle is different: centrifugal fans transport gas by the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the impeller, while axial fans drive gas to move along the axial direction by the rotation of the blades.
二、Different performance characteristics: Centrifugal fans can provide higher air pressure, but the air volume is relatively small. The performance characteristic of axial flow fans is that they can generate a large air volume, but due to the limitations of blade design, the air pressure they generate is relatively low.
三、Installation and maintenance differ: Centrifugal fans may require more space for their enclosed impeller and casing structure, and maintenance often involves disassembling more components to access the internal impeller and motor. Axial fans, on the other hand, typically have simpler installation due to their design, which allows direct mounting inside ducts or use as free air delivery. These fans are also relatively easier to maintain, as key components like blades and motors are readily accessible for inspection and replacement.
四、Different applications: Centrifugal fans are suitable for scenarios requiring high air pressure and moderate airflow, such as gas transportation in industrial processes, dust control in purification projects, and environments with special air quality and noise requirements like hospitals and libraries. Axial fans, characterized by their high airflow and low air pressure, are commonly used in situations requiring substantial air movement, such as ventilation systems in large buildings, exhaust in industrial workshops, air conditioning systems in commercial facilities, and ventilation in agricultural greenhouses.
五、Noise and efficiency differ: axial fans typically produce lower noise levels, and their efficiency is influenced by blade design and operating speed. Centrifugal fans may generate more noise, especially when operating under high air pressure.
六、Different appearance shapes: Axial fans have a cylindrical appearance, while centrifugal fans have a snail shaped appearance
七、Different installation locations: Centrifugal fans are often installed at the inlet and outlet of air conditioning units, boiler drums, induced draft fans, and other places. Axial flow fans are often installed in ducts or at the front end of duct outlets.
